History

A sixth generation Pensacolian, H. Miller Caldwell, Jr. grew up in North Hill and attended both A. V. Clubbs and Pensacola High schools, then went on to earn his associate’s degree from Pensacola Junior College. In 1974, he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in architecture. Upon his return to Pensacola, he joined the firm of Lock and Morrison, the oldest firm in town and designer of the Governmental Center Complex. Next he worked with Hugh Leitch and began to study the architectural history of Pensacola. He learned that it was important to save and replenish “lost” architecture as well as set standards for restoration. Under his next employer, Ken Woolf, he worked on the Blount and Brent building and learned what owners involved in restoration needed to know about restoring a large, older building. Ellis Bullock, his last employer, taught Miller how to run a firm of his own. From working with four of the leading architects of the city, Miller gained an interest in architectural history and the importance it plays in both the past and the future.

In 1986, Miller Caldwell founded his own company, Caldwell Associates, Inc. He brought together a talented team of architects, designers and support staff and quickly earned a reputation for innovative work and exemplary customer service. Today, with decades of experience and countless repeat clients, Caldwell Associates is considered the area’s premier architectural and design firm.
